The brake lights on the trailer use the same wire as the turn signals. If your trailer had reverse lights, it would have at least a 5-Flat connector. Since it only has a 4-Flat, you will have both turn signals, brake lights, and running lights, but no reverse lights. A 4-Flat connector is the standard for trailers and reverse lights are not common on most small utility trailers.
Installing a regular 4-Flat connector on the Lexus will not work because it uses separate wires for turn signals... view full answer...
The Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness for Factory Tow Package # C55245 does not require any programming as it is a simple replacement for the factory 4-flat on your 2001 Lexus RX 300; it does require the fuse be put into the location shown in the accompanying photo I added from the linked installation instructions.
If you did not already have the factory 4-flat then this wiring harness would not work and you would instead need the Vehicle Wiring Harness # C59496. view full answer...
You will not want to connect the power wire for the wiring harness # C59496, to anything other than the battery. The reasons for this are:
The kit has not been tested or rated for anything other than a connection to the battery.
And connecting it to an alternate power source eliminates that level of circuit protection so the vehicle wiring is not as isolated from the trailer wiring as it would be with the battery connection.
Connecting the power wire in any other location would also... view full answer...
Most likely you are fine and the difference in angle is due to the trailer sitting higher on one side than the other. I would still verify that the spring hangers are the same distance apart on both sides of the trailer, and that none of the other trailer components are not worn out.
For the 3-Leaf Spring # e57SR that you referenced the recommended distance between the hangers is 25-3/4 inches view full answer...
You are correct that the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver, part # C13429, is not rated for use with a weight distribution system and should not be used with one.
we used to carry a Hidden Hitch that was the only hitch we had for your 2000 Lexus RX 300 that's rated for weight distribution.
Another option may be to use a sway bar, like the Reese # 83660, instead of the SwayPro. It'll still fight trailer sway but obviously you would lose the other benefits of weight distribution. view full answer...
The trailer does not need to be physically attached to your vehicle's trailer hitch to properly test its rear signal lights. As long as all the wiring is correct and connected between the tow vehicle and trailer, everything will test just fine without actually attaching the trailer coupler.
In fact, it is better to test the trailer lights with the trailer uncoupled, so you do not experience a false ground. view full answer...
The recommended hardware kit for your 2000 Lexus RX300, part # C59496 includes a power lead wire that must be connected.
This is done so that the trailer does not pull power directly from the vehicle tail light circuits, and instead pulls directly from the battery, preventing an overload on your vehicle wiring.
If any of the trailer lights had a short circuit, the lights on your Lexus would not be damaged.
The installation would go as follows.
First, you will need to access the back... view full answer...
The largest gauge wire that a 7-way will be able to handle is 10 gauge like # 10-1-1. Once you install the isolator, this will give you a maintenance charge, it will not charge a dead battery.
To be able to fully charge the trailer battery from a discharged state you would have to use the NOCO Genius # 329-GENIUS5. This charger can be used to fully charge the battery and then you can maintain that charge with the vehicles charging system.
I have linked these items to this page for... view full answer...
The 4-Flat Universal Mounting Bracket # 118149 that you referenced would be an excellent bracket to use to secure the 4-way of the Tow Ready Wiring harness part # 118245 to your 2001 Lexus RX300.
What I would recommend you use to secure the wires would be zip ties. You would just want to zip tie the wire harness to the underside of your vehicle avoiding moving parts that could pinch the wire and exhaust components that could melt it. view full answer...
